Oh yeah, that work thing

Work finally put out a press release about the funding round. From an engineering perspective, we mostly see that as a reduction in distractions, there were lots of little "because of the funding round" interruptions that I'll have to keep in mind if I ever do that (no longer especially timely) book on the psychology of startups...

a press release (eww, PDF) (see the original for the yadda yadda about forward looking statements.)

MetaCarta Geographic Technology Revolutionizes Document Search & Retrieval

Cambridge, MA – January 7, 2004 – MetaCarta, Inc., a pioneering geographic information application solutions provider, announced that it had secured $6.5 million in Series B funding from venture capital firms and institutional investors. The list of investors includes Sevin Rosen Funds, Solstice Capital, Chevron Technology Ventures LLC and Chisholm Private Capital Partners.

Founded in 1999, MetaCarta’s groundbreaking technology bridges the gap between Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and document retrieval. MetaCarta’s flagship product, MetaCarta Geographic Text SearchTM (GTS), boosts productivity by reducing the number of person-hours involved in searching, sorting, and reading large volumes of documents.

MetaCarta’s users include intelligence agencies, military organizations, and large energy corporations - all of which require immediate access to information on a geographical basis. MetaCarta’s new round of funding enables the organization to build upon its leadership within the government and energy markets, expand its product line, and extend market leadership into new market segments.
